ELEMENTS OF MASS CULTURE IN V.PELEVIN'S WORKS

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of interaction between postmodernism and mass literature. Pelevin chooses the language of modern mass culture, which includes the neo-mythology of cinema, computer games, mass literature, television, the press, and the Internet. The specificity of the combination in Pelevin's texts of actual mass and traditional in world literature is investigated. Pelevin includes advertising in his texts, uses popular heroes of mass literature, introduces real-life people, gods, and at the same time he clearly pursues the goal of commercialization of his work. The following questions are considered: why this writer has become popular with a large mass of readers, what features of the text are characteristic of this author, what techniques he uses to attract his readers.
