This article examines the development of active vocabulary among third- and fourth-grade pupils as an essential condition for developing communication skills in Russian. The study is based on experimental work involving 1,010 pupils from general education schools in the Namangan, Fergana and Andijan regions of Uzbekistan. Particular attention is paid to the systematic introduction of thematic vocabulary and its practical use in mini-dialogues and communicative situations. Digital educational tools are also used to support vocabulary acquisition and regular revision. The results of the diagnostic stage demonstrate the need for systematic work aimed at transferring vocabulary from passive recognition to active use in communication.
