This article explores the historical heritage of the Great Silk Road and its significance for contemporary tourism development. The Silk Road, once one of the most important trade and cultural exchange routes connecting the East and the West, played a central role in shaping the social, scientific, and economic life of the regions it crossed. Located at the heart of this network, Uzbekistan has long been home to major caravan cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, which served as centers of trade, craftsmanship, and cultural development.
The paper analyzes the inclusion of Uzbekistan’s historical sites in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as international initiatives implemented within the framework of the Silk Road Programme. Modern projects such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, and large-scale tourism initiatives are highlighted for their role in strengthening Uzbekistan’s position in the global tourism market.
The study concludes that preserving the historical legacy of the Silk Road and revitalizing it through modern tourism strategies serve as essential elements for Uzbekistan’s sustainable development, cultural diplomacy, and international cooperation.
