Abstract

This article analyzes the role and significance of reduplication in the process of deriving new words in the Uzbek language. Reduplication is explained as an effective word-formation method in which a new meaning is created through the full or partial repetition of a word. The study examines its two main types - full and partial reduplication - as well as their manifestations with and without phonetic changes. Through examples, it is shown that each type of reduplication fulfills various semantic functions in Uzbek, such as intensification, duration, repetition, and expressiveness. The article also reveals the ancient roots of reduplication based on historical sources, including the Orkhon-Enisei inscriptions and the work Qutadghu Bilig. In addition, modern forms of reduplication emerging in contemporary spoken language, particularly those influenced by borrowed words, are analyzed.
