THE ROLE AND PLACE OF UNIVERSITIES IN THE "KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY"

Abstract
The article substantiates the idea that a rational orientation in the perception of the surrounding world is the result of the processes of interaction, opposition and mutual influence of various knowledge systems within the university. As a result of all processes occurring within the university system, the level of rationality as a whole increases, which is especially important in a society largely based on scientific knowledge and dependent on its further development.The conclusion is made that in the context of the development of a knowledge society, universities will have to evolve at the same rapid pace as the world around them is changing, but they should not lose the most important components of their traditional role in generating knowledge and its transmission to society.
